DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION AND PROCEDURES REFERENCE CHART

DTC detecting condition Trouble area
P0171: System Too Lean 
Total fuel trim (short term fuel trim + long term fuel trim + (A/F sensor signal - targeted A/F sensor feedback)) is higher than specified value for 30 sec. when fuel system is closed loop.

  • Exhaust system
  • Air intake system
  • Fuel system
  • MAF sensor and/or its circuit
  • ECT sensor and/or its circuit
  • A/F sensor and/or its circuit
  • ECM
P0172: System Too Rich 
Total fuel trim (short term fuel trim + long term fuel trim + (A/F sensor signal - targeted A/F sensor feedback)) is lower than specified value for 30 sec. when fuel system is closed loop.
