DTC Troubleshooting

P0461 DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

Step Action YES NO
Was "Engine and Emission Control System Check" performed?  Go to Step 2. Go to ENGINE AND EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM CHECK:J24B .
DTC check
  1. Check DTC.

Is there any CAN-DTC?
Go to CAN DTC (LOST COMMUNICATION AND COMMUNICATION BUS OFF) TABLE . Go to Step 3.
Main fuel level sensor power supply circuit and sub fuel level sensor power supply circuit check
  1. Turn OFF ignition switch and disconnect connectors from combination meter, main fuel level sensor.
  2. Check for proper terminal connection to combination meter connector, main fuel level sensor connector and sub fuel level sensor connector.
  3. If connections are OK, check that main fuel level sensor power supply circuit (A1) and sub fuel level sensor power supply circuit (A2) are as follows.
    • Wiring harness resistance of main fuel level sensor power supply circuit is less than 3 Ω.
    • Wiring harness resistance of sub fuel level sensor power supply circuit is less than 3 Ω.
    • Insulation resistance between main fuel level sensor power supply circuit and vehicle body ground is infinity.
    • Insulation resistance between sub fuel level sensor power supply circuit and vehicle body ground is infinity.
    • Insulation resistance of wire harness is infinity between main fuel level sensor power supply circuit and each terminal at main fuel level sensor connector.
    • Insulation resistance of wire harness is infinity between sub fuel level sensor power supply circuit and each terminal at sub fuel level sensor connector.
    • Circuit voltage of main fuel level sensor power supply circuit is 0 - 1 V with ignition switch in ON position.
    • Circuit voltage of sub fuel level sensor power supply circuit is 0 - 1 V with ignition switch in ON position.

Are they in good condition?
Go to Step 4. Repair or replace defective wire harness.
Fuel level sensor ground circuit check
  1. Check that fuel level sensor ground circuit (A3) is as follows.
    • Wiring harness resistance of fuel level sensor ground circuit is less than 3 Ω.
    • Circuit voltage of fuel level sensor ground circuit and body ground is 0 - 1 V with ignition switch in ON position.

Are they in good condition?
Go to Step 5. Repair or replace defective wire harness.
Main fuel level sensor and sub fuel level sensor check
  1. Check main fuel level sensor and sub fuel level sensor, see FUEL LEVEL SENSOR INSPECTION .

Is it in good condition?
Go to Step 6. Repair or replace defective parts.
DTC recheck
  1. Replace combination meter, see COMBINATION METER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  2. Perform DTC confirmation procedure and check DTC.

Is DTC P0461 still detected?
Substitute a known-good ECM and recheck. End.
