CONDITION

If an ECM is replaced in the vehicle, the VIN # must be registered into the replacement ECM.

CAUSE

ECM replacement.

CORRECTION

After installing a replacement ECM in 05MY or later vehicle the VIN must be registered into the ECM by using the SUZUKI Tech 2 (99963-00025) Scan Tool and software version 01.120.011 or later.

For Grand Vitara, XL-7 and Aerio 

The VIN registration procedure is described in the appropriate Service Manual.

NOTE: On Grand Vitara, XL-7 and Aerio models, failure to correctly register the VIN will cause the MIL to illuminate.

For the Verona, Forenza and Reno 

  1. Connect SUZUKI Tech 2 scan tool to data link connector (DLC) under driver side of instrument panel.
  2. Check the VIN shown on the left side of the instrument panel.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to ON position.
  4. Select "VIN registration" command in SELECT MODE menu of SUZUKI Tech 2 scan tool.
  5. Register VIN according to the instructions indicated on the SUZUKI Tech 2 scan tool.
    NOTE: For further details, refer to the operator's manual for SUZUKI Tech 2 scan tool.
  6. Before completing the VIN registration, check that VIN data indicated on the SUZUKI Tech 2 scan tool is correct. If not, re-register VIN data into ECM correctly.
    NOTE: The VIN# can be registered three times into a new ECM for the Verona.
