Transmission Overheats

DIAGNOSTIC TABLE - TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING

Condition Action
DEFINITION: Transmission overheats
Low fluid level Inspect for leaks and repair as necessary.
Incorrect fluid Replace the fluid with the correct fluid
Fluid Filter (42) is restricted
  • Diagnose the cause for the filter restriction and repair as needed.
  • Replace the fluid filter (42) and fluid.
Restricted Oil Cooler Lines
  • Inspect for bent or kinked pipes
  • Inspect for pinched or kinked hoses
  • Inspect for cracks or signs of hose overheating that may cause delamination of the hose
  • Replace faulty oil cooler lines
Internal oil cooler restriction Replace radiator assembly and fluid.
Case Assembly oil inlet filter/screen Remove the inlet cooler line seal from the case assembly. Inspect for foreign material trapped by the case inlet filter/screen. Clean the passage to remove the foreign material from the case inlet screen. If unable to remove the foreign material, the screen will have to be removed from the case assembly and cleared manually outside of the case assembly.
