Ignition Timing Inspection
NOTE:
- Ignition timing is not adjustable. If ignition timing is out of specification, check ignition system related parts.
- Before starting engine, place select lever in "P" range, and set parking brake.
- Connect SUZUKI scan tool to DLC (1) with ignition switch in OFF position.
Special Tool
(A): SUZUKI scan tool (SUZUKI-SDT)
- Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
- Make sure that all electrical loads except ignition are turned off.
- Make be sure that idle speed conforms to specification.
- Check ignition timing using scan tool.
ignition timing
Standard: 5 ± 3° BTDC (at specified idle speed)
Ignition order
1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6
- If ignition timing is out of specification, check the following.
- CKP sensor
- CKP sensor plate
- TP sensor
- CMP sensor
- VVT system
- Knock sensor
- Check that increasing engine speed advances ignition timing.
If check results are not satisfactory, check CKP sensor and ECM.
