EVAP Canister Purge System Inspection

EVAP Canister Purge System Inspection

WARNING: Do not apply vacuum using your mouth; otherwise harmful fuel vapor can be breathed in.

CAUTION: Do not apply vacuum of more than -67 kPa (-0.68 kgf/cm2, -9.72 psi, -0.67 bar); otherwise EVAP canister purge valve could be damaged.

1. Prepare to operate EVAP canister purge valve as follows.
- Method using SUZUKI scan tool:
a. Connect SUZUKI scan tool to DLC (1) with ignition switch turned to OFF.

Special Tool
(A): SUZUKI scan tool (SUZUKI-SDT)






b. Turn ignition switch to ON, clear DTC(s) and select "Engine / Active Test" mode on SUZUKI scan tool.

NOTE: EVAP canister purge valve is operated using scan tool as follows.
- To turn OFF EVAP canister purge valve: 0%
- To turn ON EVAP canister purge valve: 100%

- Method using service wire:

NOTE: Before performing this check, be sure to read Precautions for ECM Circuit Inspection:J24B. Precautions of ECM Circuit Inspection

a. Connect special tool (ECM check harness) between ECM and ECM connector.

NOTE:
Operate EVAP canister purge valve using service wire as follows.
- To turn ON EVAP canister purge valve:
Connect "C37-7" terminal and vehicle body ground [b]
- To turn ON EVAP canister purge valve:
Disconnect "C37-7" terminal and vehicle body ground [a]






2. Disconnect vacuum hose (2) from intake manifold and purge hose from EVAP canister purge valve (1).
3. Install special tool to vacuum hose.

Special Tool
(A): 09917-47011

4. Check EVAP canister purge valve operation.
If faulty condition is found, check the following.
- Wire harness and connections
- EVAP canister purge valve
- Vacuum hoses
a. Check that vacuum of -60 kPa (-0.6 kgf/cm2, -8.7 psi, -0.6 bar) can be applied when EVAP canister purge valve is turned OFF [A].
b. Check that no vacuum can be applied when EVAP canister purge valve is turned ON [B].
