Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the rack and pinion outer tie rods. Refer to STEERING LINKAGE OUTER TIE ROD REPLACEMENT .
  2. Remove the power steering gear. Refer to STEERING GEAR REPLACEMENT .
  3. Completely remove the steering linkage inner tie rod nuts.

  4. Remove the steering gear clamp (1) from the steering gear boot.

  5. Cut, remove, and discard the steering gear clamp (1).

    NOTE: After removing the boot, inspect the inner tie rod for evidence of corrosion or contamination. If none is evident, continue with the repair. If corrosion or contamination is evident, replace the steering gear.
  6. Remove the steering gear boot.

  7. Clean the steering linkage inner tie rod and boot contact areas of any grease and debris.
