Variable Valve Timing Solenoid: Testing and Inspection

OCV Inspection

1. Remove OCV.
Check OCV as follows.
If faulty condition is found, replace OCV.
- Check that surface of strainer part (1) is not clog get and free from foreign material.
- Check that surface of OCV is free from damage.







2. Check OCV as follows.
If faulty condition is found, replace OCV.
a. Measure resistance between terminals. If resistance is within specification, go to step (b).

7.15 - 7.25 ohms at 20 °C (68 °F)







b. Connect 12 V battery to terminals, and then confirm actuation of spool (1).

CAUTION:
- Do not apply voltage to OCV for 5 sec. or more. Otherwise, coil of OCV will be damaged.
- To avoid over-current caused by short circuit in OCV, use circuit fuse (2) into circuit between battery positive terminal and OCV terminal.
