Disassembly Procedure
- Remove the strut assembly. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement .
- Use paint in order to mark the position of the spring relative to the strut assembly-to-knuckle bracket.
- Install the strut assembly to the J 45400 ( KM-329-A ) or equivalent. Ensure the hooks are seated on the spring properly. See Special Tools .
- Compress the spring with the J 45400 ( KM-329-A ) or equivalent. See Special Tools .
- Use a wrench in order to hold the threaded piston rod while removing the piston rod nut with the J-44626 ( SA9603E ) or equivalent. See Special Tools .
- Remove the following components from the strut:
- The strut mount
- The strut mount bearing
- The spring upper seat
- The strut cartridge upper cover
- The bumper stop
- The coil spring
NOTE:
Do not allow the absorber rod to rotate during disassembly/reassembly. Use hand tools to keep the absorber rod from rotating. If air tools are used, and the rod is allowed to rotate, damage to the absorber may occur.
