Installation Procedure

  1. Install the wheel hub, bearing and seal from the knuckle. Refer to Wheel Hub, Bearing, Knuckle, and Seal Replacement .
  2. Fig 1: Backing Plate & Knuckle Assembly

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  3. Install the knuckle assembly to the front strut with the nuts and bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the knuckle assembly to the front strut with nuts and bolts to 100 N.m (74 lb ft).

  4. Install the backing plate with the screws.

    Tighten:  Tighten the backing plate with the screws to 4 N.m (35 lb in).

  6. Install the ABS wheel speed sensor. Refer to Front Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement .
  7. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement .
  8. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement .

  10. Install the lower ball joint to the steering knuckle.
  11. Install the lower ball joint.

    Tighten:  Tighten the lower ball joint nut to 55 N.m (41 lb ft).

  12. Install the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
  13. Install the outer tie rod nut.

    Tighten:  Tighten the outer tie rod nut to 45 N.m (33 lb ft).

  14. Loosely install a NEW axle shaft caulking nut.
  15. Install the front wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  16. Lower the vehicle.
  17. Tighten the axle shaft caulking nut.

    Tighten:  Tighten the axle shaft caulking nut to 300 N.m (221 lb ft).

  18. Stake the caulking nut.
  19. Inspect the vehicle. Refer to Preliminary Alignment Inspection and Straight Ahead Inspection .
  20. Measure the wheel alignment.
  21. If necessary, adjust the front toe. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment .
