Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Suzuki Swift +, 2008 Pontiac Wave, and 2008 Chevrolet Aveo. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the CMP sensor.
  2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition 1 voltage circuit terminal 1 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition 1 voltage circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the ignition 1 voltage circuit fuse is open, test all components connected to the ignition 1 voltage circuit and replace as necessary.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the ground circuit terminal 2 and the ignition 1 voltage circuit terminal 1. Verify the test lamp illuminates.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, repair the the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 volts between the signal circuit terminal 3 and the ground circuit terminal 2.
    • If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
  5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the CMP sensor.
