Installation Procedure
- Lubricate the camshaft journals and the camshaft caps with engine oil.
- Install the intake camshaft.
- Install the intake camshaft caps in their original positions.
- Install the intake camshaft cap bolts.
- Install the exhaust camshaft.
- Install the exhaust camshaft caps in their original positions.
- Install the exhaust camshaft cap bolts.
- Tighten the camshaft cap bolts gradually and in the sequence shown for each camshaft cap.
Tighten: Tighten the camshaft cap bolts to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).
- Measure the intake camshaft end play and the exhaust camshaft end play. Refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications .
- Install the intake camshaft gear.
- While holding the intake camshaft firmly in place, install the intake camshaft gear bolt.
Tighten: Tighten the intake camshaft gear bolt to 67.5 N.m (49 lb ft).
- Install the exhaust camshaft gear.
- While holding the exhaust camshaft firmly in place, install the exhaust camshaft gear bolt.
Tighten: Tighten the exhaust camshaft bolt to 67.5 N.m (49 lb ft).
- Install the valve cover and the valve cover gasket.
- Install the valve cover washers.
- Install the valve cover nuts.
Tighten: Tighten the valve cover nuts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
- Connect the ignition wires to the spark plugs.
- Connect the CMP sensor.
- Install the engine cover.
- Install the engine cover bolts.
Tighten: Tighten the spark plug cover bolts to 3 N.m (27 lb in).
- Install the oil filler cap.
- Connect the vacuum line.
- Connect the air breather tube to the valve cover.
- Install the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement .
IMPORTANT:
Use extreme care when installing the camshaft not to nick, scratch, or damage the camshaft lobes or bearing surfaces.
