TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS) DIAGNOSTIC TIPS

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

CONDITION

The TPMS light "XX" may be ON or flashing.

CAUSE

TPMS light "ON" - Tire pressure may have been adjusted with an inaccurate gauge, or tire pressure could be low.

TPMS light "Flashing" - Pressure sensors have not been activated at PDI or there is a fault with one or more sensors.

CORRECTION

Follow the instructions shown in the service manual under "Diagnostic Information and Procedures". Use the Tech 2 to verify final tire pressures by viewing the data from each sensor rather than rely on the accuracy of a mechanical or electronic air gauge. Accuracy deviations within mechanical and electronic measurement devices could result in pressure readings which differ from what the BCM receives. By using the Tech 2 pressure readings you will observe the exact pressure as seen by the TPMS system for warning of pressure changes. Please see tips below for each TPMS light status.

TPMS light is "ON" or blinks for 75 seconds then remains "ON". 

1. Drive the vehicle at 25 m.p.h. to activate the TPMS sensors. The sensors will transmit every 60 seconds.
   NOTE: After 15 minutes the sensors will return to "Pause Mode" and transmit every hour.
2. Connect the Tech 2 to the data link connector (DLC).
3. With the key "ON" and engine "OFF" power up the Tech 2 and navigate to TPMS trouble codes. SUZUKI -> North America -> (Y) SX4 -> Body -> BCM -> System w/TPMS -> Trouble Codes. Continue to step 4. Refer to the "Note" in step  6 to locate the affected tire.
4. With the key "ON" and engine "OFF" power up the Tech 2 and navigate to the TPMS data list. SUZUKI -> North America -> (Y) SX4 -> Body -> BCM -> System w/TPMS -> Data List.
5. Scroll down list until the air pressure is shown. Check the indicated air pressure on the data list. Front and rear tire pressure specification is 230 kPa (33PSI). If the data list shows the pressure out of range adjust the tire pressure. The pressure reading will not update instantly, wait at least 20 seconds for the pressure reading to update. Use the Tech 2 data as the final pressure specification.
   NOTE: The "#1-4 ID Regi status" will always state "Incomplete" unless the "Misc Test" for "TPMS ID registration with LF tool" is used to learn the ID of the sensors. This is not a malfunction  of the TPMS of the vehicle.
6. When the tire pressure changes 8.3 kPa (1.2 PSI) or more, the "Sensor #1-4 status" will change to "Remeasure". This mode will increase update frequency from every 60 seconds to between every 2 to 20 seconds.
   NOTE: Each tire pressure sensor is numbered and that number is assigned in the order as its ID code is registered in BCM. It does not indicate the tire position (LF, RF, LR and RR). Check what number of the tire pressure sensor is assigned to which tire, referring to "How to Identify Tire Pressure Sensor Number" in the service manual.
7. If the "Sensor #1-4 status" shows "Learn" the sensor is not active or the sensor may have been changed and not registered. Please drive the vehicle at 25 m.p.h. to activate the sensors or register the new sensor(s) as required.
   NOTE: Please refer to the "General Description" section of the service manual for information pertaining to the status indications displayed on the Tech 2.

   When using the TPMS test tool for any procedure noted in the service manual, please place the tool in the indicated position for best results.

   NOTE: The TPMS sensors cannot be monitored or registered on this vehicle while the engine is running.
