Timing Chain Description
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Suzuki Verona. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The timing chain coordinates the crankshaft and the dual overhead camshafts and keeps them synchronized. The timing chain and the sprockets are toothed so that there is no slippage between them. A timing chain tensioner, a timing chain lever, and a fixed chain guide maintain the timing chain's correct tension. The timing chain is made of steel and under normal operation, virtually no maintenance (replacement of timing chain) is required. The timing chain requires appropriate lubrication.
