Generator Drive Belt Inspection

Reference: GENERATOR DRIVE BELT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

WARNING:
  • Disconnect negative cable at battery before checking and adjusting belt tension.
  • To help avoid danger of being burned, do not remove radiator cap while engine and radiator are still hot. Scalding fluid and steam can be blown out under pressure if cap is taken off too soon.
  1. Remove air cleaner outlet hose.
  2. Check tension indicator (10) of generator drive belt (1) by using mirror under enough lighting.
    1. For type [1], check that tension indicator (10) points within standard (11) as shown. If the tension indicator (10) is out of standard (11) passing limit (12), replace the generator drive belt (1).
    2. For type [2], check that tension indicator (10) points within standard (11) as shown. If the limit (12) is found to the left of the tension indicator (10), replace the generator drive belt (1).

If new generator drive belt has been installed, the tension indicator (10) should be within "a" as shown. If it isn't, it means the drive belt is not installed properly. Reinstall it properly.

  3. Hoist vehicle.
  4. Remove right side engine under cover.
  5. Inspect the drive belt for cracks, cut, deformation, wear and cleanliness. If any defect exists, replace the belt.
