Malfunction Indicator Lamp Does Not Come ON at Ignition Switch ON (But Engine at Stop): Troubleshooting

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

Step Action YES NO
MIL power supply check
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position.

Do other warning lights come ON?
Go to Step 4. Go to Step 2.
METER fuse check
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
  2. Check for fuse blow at "METER" fuse.

Is "METER" fuse in good condition?
Go to Step 3. Replace "METER" fuse and check for short.
MIL power supply check
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
  2. Remove combination meter referring to COMBINATION METER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Check for proper connection to combination meter connector at "BLK/RED" wire terminal.
  4. If OK, then turn ignition switch to ON position and measure voltage between combination meter connector at "BLK/RED" wire terminal and vehicle body ground.

Is voltage 10 - 14 V?
Replace combination meter. Open wire in "BLK/RED" and "GRN" wire circuit.
MIL power supply check
  1. Disconnect ECM connector "G04".
  2. Check for proper connection to ECM connector at "G04-13" terminal.
  3. If OK, measure voltage between "G04-13" terminal of ECM connector and vehicle body ground with ignition switch turned ON.

Is voltage 10 - 12 V?
Go to Step 6. Go to Step 5.
MIL power supply check
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
  2. Remove combination meter referring to COMBINATION METER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Check for proper connection to combination meter connector at "PPL/YEL" wire terminal.
  4. If OK, measure resistance between "PPL/YEL" wire terminal of combination meter connector and "G04-13" terminal of ECM connector.

Is resistance 2 ohm or less?
Replace combination meter. Open or high resistance in "PPL/YEL" wire circuit.
ECM power and ground circuit check
  1. Connect combination meter connectors.
  2. Using service wire, ground terminal "G04-13" of disconnected ECM connector.

Does MIL turn on at ignition switch turned ON?
Check ECM power and ground circuit referring to ECM POWER AND GROUND CIRCUIT CHECK . If OK, substitute a known-good ECM and recheck. Replace combination meter.
