DTC Troubleshooting

DTC DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

Step Action YES NO
Was "Engine and Emission Control System Check" performed?  Go to Step 2. Go to ENGINE AND EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM CHECK .
Engine coolant temp. check 
  1. With ignition switch turned OFF, install scan tool.
  2. Start engine and warm up for normal operating temperature with idling.
  3. Check engine coolant temp. using scan tool.

Is engine coolant temp. -40 °C (- 40 °F)? 
Go to Step 3. Go to Step 5.
ECT sensor circuit check 
  1. With ignition switch turned OFF, install scan tool and using service wire, connect "GRN" wire terminal and "GRY/YEL" wire terminal at ECT sensor connector.
  2. With ignition switch turned ON, check engine coolant temp. displayed on scan tool.

Is engine coolant temp. 164 °C (327 °F)? 
Go to Step 4. Faulty "GRY/YEL", "GRN" wire.
If OK, substitute a known-good ECM and recheck.
ECT sensor performance check 
  1. Check ECT sensor referring to ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR INSPECTION .

Is check result as specified? 
Go to Step 5. Faulty ECT sensor.
Thermostat check 
  1. Check thermostat referring to THERMOSTAT INSPECTION .

Is thermostat in good condition? 
Substitute a known-good ECM and recheck. Faulty thermostat.
