Cooling System Check

WARNING: To help avoid danger of being burned, do not remove radiator cap while engine and radiator are still hot.

Scalding fluid and steam can be blown out under pressure if cap is taken off too soon.

Cooling system should be serviced as follows.

  1. Check cooling system for leakage or damage.
  2. Remove the radiator cap.
  3. Wash radiator cap and filler neck with clean water.
  4. Check coolant for proper level and freeze protection.
  5. Using special tool, check radiator cap for its relief valve opening pressure (108 kPa (1.1 kg/cm2 , 15.6 psi)).
  6. Inspect the cooling system performing the following steps.
    1. Fill the coolant and attach special tool to radiator filler.
    2. Pump it up to 108 kPa (1.1 kg/cm2 , 15.6 psi) and check that the pressure does not drop. If the pressure drops, inspect all hoses, the radiator and the water pump for leaks.
