MIL Does Not Light at Ignition Switch ON and Engine Does Not Start Through It Is Cranked Up: Troubleshooting
IGNITION SWITCH - TROUBLESHOOTING CHART
| Step |
Action |
YES |
NO |
| 1 |
Ignition fuse check
- Remove ECM cover.
- Check for proper connection at terminals "E61-7", "C51-3-20", "E61-9", "C51-3-15", "C51-3-4", "C51-2-7", "C51-3-17" and "C51-3-6" of ECM connector.
- If OK, turn OFF ignition switch.
- Check for fuse blow at "IG COIL" fuse.
Is "IG COIL" fuse OK? |
Go to Step 2. |
Fuse blows. |
| 2 |
Ignition fuse check
- Turn ON ignition switch.
- Measure ignition switch signal voltage between "C51-3-20" terminal of ECM connector and vehicle body ground.
Is terminal voltage 10 - 14 V? |
Go to Step 3. |
Open in "BLK/WHT" circuit. |
| 3 |
Main relay circuit check
- Turn OFF ignition switch.
- Check for fuse blow at main fuse.
- If OK, measure main relay voltage between "E61-9" terminal of ECM connector and vehicle body ground with ignition switch turned OFF.
Is terminal voltage 10 - 14 V? |
Go to Step 4. |
Go to Step 7. |
| 4 |
Main relay circuit check
- Turn ON ignition switch.
- Measure main relay voltage between "E61- 9" terminal of ECM connector and vehicle body ground.
Is terminal voltage 0 - 1 V? |
Go to Step 6. |
Go to Step 5. |
| 5 |
ECM ground check
- Turn OFF ignition switch.
- Measure resistance between each "C51-2- 7", "C51-3-17" and "C51-3-6" terminal of ECM connector and vehicle body ground.
Is resistance less than 5 Ω? |
Faulty ECM. |
ECM ground is open circuit or high resistance circuit. |
| 6 |
Main relay circuit check
- Turn ON ignition switch.
- Measure main relay voltage between each "C51-3-15", "C51-3-4" terminal of ECM connector and vehicle body ground.
Is terminal voltage 10 - 14 V? |
Faulty ECM. |
Go to Step 7. |
| 7 |
Main relay circuit check
- Turn OFF ignition switch.
- Measure "BLK/RED" wire terminals voltage at main relay connector.
Is terminal voltage 10 - 14 V? |
Go to Step 8. |
Open in "BLK/RED" circuit. |
| 8 |
Main relay check
- Turn OFF ignition switch.
- Remove main relay and then check main relay referring to MAIN RELAY INSPECTION
.
Is main relay in good condition? |
"BLU" ("E61-9") or "BLU/BLK" ("C51-3-15", "C51-3-4") wire is open circuit. |
Faulty main relay. |
