DTC TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

Step Action Value(s) Yes No
1 Perform an ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD II) SYSTEM CHECK .
Is the system check complete?
- Go to Step 2. Go to ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD II) SYSTEM CHECK .
2
  1. Start the engine.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. With the throttle closed, select the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor parameter on the scan tool.

Is the MAF within the specified range?
90 - 130 mg/stk Go to Step 3. Go to Step 4.
3
  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
  2. Turn the ignition OFF for 30 seconds.
  3. Start the engine.
  4. Operate the vehicle within the conditions for setting the DTC as specified in the supporting text or until the DTC diagnostic has run.

4
  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the MAF sensor connector.
  3. Turn the ignition ON, leaving the engine OFF.
  4. Measure the voltage from the MAF sensor ignition feed circuit using a DVM connected to ground.

Is the voltage near the specified value?
B+ Go to Step 5. Go to Step 6.
5
  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Reconnect the MAF sensor connector.
  3. Start the engine.
  4. Backprobe the MAF sensor signal circuit at ECM using a DVM.
  5. Measure the voltage while the engine is idling.

Is the voltage within the specified range?
0.5 - 1.0 V Go to Step 9. Go to Step 7.
6 Repair the open or the short circuit in the MAF sensor ignition feed circuit.
Is the repair complete?
- Go to Step 10. -
7
  1. Check the MAF sensor signal circuit for the following conditions:
    • An open between the ECM and the MAF sensor.
    • A short between the ECM and the MAF sensor.
    • A poor connection at the MAF sensor.
  2. Repair as necessary.

Was a repair necessary?
- Go to Step 10. Go to Step 8.
