Installation Procedure
- Place the alignment bushing onto the end of the steering column shaft.
- Carefully guide the steering shaft into the steering shaft coupling flange.
- Install the pinch bolt into the non-threaded hole of the flange.
Tighten: Tighten the pinch bolt to 22 N.m (16 lb ft).
- Slide the alignment bushing into the steering column housing.
- Install the nut for the rear bracket of the steering column jacket assembly.
Tighten: Tighten the nut to 22 N.m (16 lb ft).
- Install the nuts for the steering column jacket assembly front bracket.
Tighten: Tighten the nuts to 22 N.m (16 lb ft).
- Connect the ignition switch electrical connection.
- Install the key reminder switch and the key reminder switch screws.
Tighten: Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
- Install the key interlock solenoid and the key interlock solenoid screws.
Tighten: Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
- Connect the air bag electrical connections.
- Install the lower instrument trim panel screws.
Tighten: Tighten the screws to 3 N.m (27 lb in).
- Install the turn signal switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal Switch Replacement .
- Install the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Wipers/Washer Switch Replacement .
- Inspect the position of the steering system. Refer to Straight Ahead Inspection .
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Install the upper and the lower steering column cover panels and the screws.
Tighten: Tighten the screws to 3 N.m (27 lb in).
IMPORTANT:
For proper installation of the steering column, be sure the steering wheel spokes are centered diagonally and pointed downward, and that the front wheels are in the straight-ahead position.
NOTE:

IMPORTANT:
Provide support for the steering column assembly until the mounting nuts are fastened. Do not let the steering column assembly hand unsupported.
