DTC Troubleshooting

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

Step Action YES NO
Was "Engine and Emission Control System Check" performed?  Go to Step 2. Go to ENGINE AND EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM CHECK .
Is engine cranked?  Go to Step 3. Go to CRANKING SYSTEM SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS .
Engine start signal check
  1. Check engine start signal circuit referring to DTC P0616: Starter Relay Circuit Low and DTC P0617: Starter Relay Circuit High .

Are check result satisfactory?
Go to Step 4. Repair or replace.
Check CMP sensor power supply voltage
  1. Disconnect connector from CMP sensor (1) with ignition switch turned OFF.
  2. Turn ON ignition switch, measure voltage between "BLK/ORN" and "BLK/RED" wire terminals of CMP sensor connector.
G04589470

Is voltage 10 - 14 V?
Go to Step 8. Go to Step 5.
Check CMP sensor power supply voltage
  1. Turn ON ignition switch, measure voltage between engine ground and "BLK/RED" wire terminal of CMP sensor connector.

Is voltage 10 - 14 V?
Go to Step 6. Open wire in "BLK/RED" circuit.
Check CMP sensor ground circuit
  1. Measure resistance between "BLK/ORN" wire terminal of CMP sensor connector and engine ground.

Is resistance below 5 ohm?
Go to Step 8. Go to Step 7
Check ground circuit
  1. Disconnect connectors from ECM with ignition switch turned OFF.
  2. Remove ECM from vehicle body and connect connectors to ECM.
  3. Measure resistance between "C45-6" terminal of ECM connector and vehicle body ground.

Is resistance below 5 ohm?
Open or high resistance wire in "BLK/ORN" circuit. Open or high resistance wire in "C45-6" and/or "C46-6" circuit.
If wires are OK, substitute a known-good ECM and recheck.
Check CMP sensor reference signal circuit
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position.
  2. Measure voltage between "YEL/RED" wire terminal of CMP sensor connector and engine ground.

Is voltage 4 - 5 V?
Go to Step 11. Go to Step 9.
Check CMP sensor signal circuit
  1. Disconnect connectors from ECM with ignition switch turned OFF.
  2. Measure resistance between "YEL/RED" wire terminal of CMP sensor connector and vehicle body ground.

Is resistance infinity?
Go to Step 10. "YEL/RED" wire shorted to ground circuit.
10  Check CMP sensor signal circuit
  1. Turn ON ignition switch, measure voltage between "YEL/RED" wire terminal of CMP sensor connector and vehicle body ground.

Is voltage 0 V?
Open wire in "YEL/RED" circuit. "YEL/RED" wire shorted to other circuits.
11  Check CMP sensor signal circuit
  1. Measure resistance between "YEL/RED" wire terminal of CMP sensor connector and "C46-14" terminal of ECM connector with ignition switch turned OFF.

Is resistance below 3 ohm?
Go to Step 12. High resistance wire in "YEL/RED" circuit.
12  Check CMP sensor reference signal circuit
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position.
  2. Measure voltage between "BLU" wire terminal of CMP sensor connector and engine ground.

Is voltage 4 - 5 V?
Go to Step 15. Go to Step 13.
13  Check CMP sensor signal circuit
  1. Disconnect connectors from ECM with ignition switch turned OFF.
  2. Measure resistance between "BLU" wire terminal of CMP sensor connector and vehicle body ground.

Is resistance infinity?
Go to Step 14. "BLU" wire shorted to ground circuit.
14  Check CMP sensor signal circuit
  1. Turn ON ignition switch, measure voltage between "BLU" wire terminal of CMP sensor connector and vehicle body ground.

Is voltage 0 V?
Open wire in "BLU" circuit. "BLU" wire shorted to other circuits.
15  Check CMP sensor signal circuit
  1. Measure resistance between "BLU" wire terminal of CMP sensor connector and "C46-15" terminal of ECM connector with ignition switch turned OFF.

Is resistance below 3 ohm?
Go to Step 16. High resistance wire in "BLU" circuit.
16  Check CMP sensor signal circuit
  1. Using oscilloscope, check CMP sensor waveform referring to INSPECTION OF ECM AND ITS CIRCUITS .

Is it good condition?
Faulty ECM.
Substitute a known-good ECM and recheck.
Faulty CMP sensor.
