Load Test
- Connect voltmeter (1) and battery load tester (2) across battery (3) terminals.
- Apply 190 ampere load for 15 seconds to remove surface charge.
- Remove the load and wait 15 seconds to let battery recover.
- Apply 190 ampere load. Read voltage after 15 seconds.
- Remove the load.
- The voltage does not drop below the minimum as listed in the figure.
- Battery is good.
- The voltage drops below the minimum as listed in the figure.
- Replace the battery.
- The voltage does not drop below the minimum as listed in the figure.
Battery load test voltage
VOLTAGE REFERENCE
| Estimated temperature | Minimum required voltage under 15 sec. load |
|---|---|
| 21°C / 70°F | 9.6 V |
| 10°C / 50°F | 9.4 V |
| 0°C / 30°F | 9.1 V |
| -10°C / 15°F | 8.8 V |
| -18°C / 0°F | 8.5 V |
| Below -18°C / 0°F | 8.0 V |
NOTE:
Temperature of battery will affect minimum voltage required to pass load test.
See the table and estimate the temperature battery has been exposed to the last several hours.
