MIL Does Not Light at Ignition Switch ON and Engine Does Not Start though It Is Cranked Up: Troubleshooting

TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

Step Action Yes No
1 Ignition fuse check
  1. Remove ECM (PCM) cover.
  2. Check for proper connection at terminal "E61 -34", "C51 -2-3", "E61-8", "C51-2-20", "C51-2-21", "C51-3-25", "C51-3-26", "C51-2-8" and "C51-2-9".
  3. If OK, turn OFF ignition switch.
  4. Check for fuse blow at "IG COIL" fuse.

Is "IG COIL" fuse is OK?
Go to Step 2. Replace "IG COIL" fuse with new one.
2 Ignition signal check
  1. Turn ON ignition switch.
  2. Measure ignition signal voltage between "C51-2-3" terminal and vehicle body ground.

Is terminal voltage 10- 14 V?
Go to Step 3. "BLK/WHT" wire is open circuit.
3 Main relay circuit check
  1. Turn OFF ignition switch.
  2. Check for fuse blow at main fuse.
  3. If OK, measure main relay voltage between "E61-8" terminal and vehicle body ground with ignition switch turned OFF.

Is terminal voltage 10- 14 V?
Go to Step 4. Go to Step 7.
4 Main relay circuit check
  1. Turn ON ignition switch.
  2. Measure main relay voltage between "E61-8" terminal and vehicle body ground.

Is terminal voltage 0- 1 V?
Go to Step 6. Go to Step 5.
5 ECM ground check
  1. Turn OFF ignition switch.
  2. Measure resistance between each "C51-2-8", "C51-2-9", "C51-3-25" and "C51-3-26" terminal and vehicle body ground.

Is resistance less than 5 Ω?
Faulty ECM (PCM). ECM (PCM) ground is open circuit or high resistance circuit.
6 Main relay circuit check
  1. Turn ON ignition switch.
  2. Measure main relay voltage between each "C51-2-20", "C51-2-21" terminal and vehicle body ground.

Is terminal voltage 10- 14 V?
Faulty ECM (PCM). Go to Step 7.
7 Main relay circuit check
  1. Turn OFF ignition switch.
  2. Measure "BLK/RED" wire terminals voltage at main relay connector.

Is terminal voltage 10- 14 V?
Go to Step 8. "BLK/RED" wire is open circuit.
8 Main relay check
  1. Turn OFF ignition switch.
  2. Remove main relay and then check main relay referring to "MAIN RELAY INSPECTION ".

Is main relay good condition?
"BLU" ("E61-8") or "BLU/BLK" ("C51-2-20", "C51-2-21") wire is open circuit. Faulty main relay.
