Transfer Case Actuator: Testing and Inspection
Transfer Shift Actuator InspectionReference: Transfer Shift Actuator Removal and Installation: Motor-Shift Type
Transfer Shift Actuator Motor
1. Connect battery positive (+) and negative (-) terminals to transfer shift actuator (1) terminals and check its operation as follows. If it does not operate as specified, replace transfer shift actuator (1).
Transfer shift actuator motor operation
2. Connect battery and ammeter to transfer shift actuator (1) as shown. Check that transfer shift actuator motor rotates smoothly and ammeter indicates specified current. If measured current is out of specification, replace transfer shift actuator (1).
Transfer shift actuator motor specified current (no load performance test): 2.5 A max. at 12 V
Transfer Shift Actuator Motor Position Sensor
Measure resistance of transfer shift actuator motor position sensor at all shift positions as follows.
1. Position reduction drive shift cam (1) at each shift position below by connecting battery to terminals "a" and "b" of transfer shift actuator connector (4) as shown in figure.
2. Measure resistance between "c" and "d" terminals of transfer shift actuator connector (4). If measured resistance is out of specification, replace transfer shift actuator (3).
