CONDITION
"PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF" light ON when it should be OFF.
CAUSE
Passenger air bag sensing system conditions have not been met to turn OFF the "Passenger Airbag Off" light.
CORRECTION
If it is believed that the "Passenger Air Bag Off" light should be turned OFF, follow the instructions in the appropriate Owner's Manual .
The passenger sensing system is designed to turn OFF the right front passenger's frontal air bag and side air bag when the weight on the front seat is 25.6 kg (56.4 lbs) or less. The air bag should be turned OFF and the "Passenger Air Bag Off" light should be ON in the following situations.
- The right front passenger seat is unoccupied.
- The system determines that an infant or a small child is present in the right front passenger seat.
- A right front passenger takes his/her weight off of the seat for a period of time.
NOTE:
If a person of adult-size is sitting in the right front passenger's seat, but the "Passenger Air Bag Off" indicator is ON, it could be because that person is not sitting properly in the seat.
