DTC Troubleshooting

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE - DTC P0453 FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR HIGH INPUT

Step Action Value(s) Yes No
1 Perform an On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check.
Is the system check complete?
- Go to Step 2. Go to "ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD II) SYSTEM CHECK ".

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON with the engine OFF.
  2. Install a scan tool.

Is the fuel tank pressure sensor voltage below the specified value?
4.8 V Go to Step 4. Go to Step 3.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON, with the engine OFF.
  2. Review the Freeze Frame data and note the parameters.
  3. Operate the vehicle within the Freeze Frame conditions and Conditions for Setting The DTC as noted.

Is the fuel tank pressure sensor voltage greater than the specified value?
4.8 V Go to Step 4. Go to Step 12.
4 Disconnect the fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connector.
Is the fuel tank pressure sensor voltage less than the specified value.
0.2 V Go to Step 5. Go to Step 6.
5 Probe the fuel tank pressure sensor ground circuit, at terminal C at the fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector with a test light connected to B+.
Does the test light illuminate?
- Go to Step 7. Go to Step 9.
6 Check the fuel tank pressure sensor signal circuit, at terminal B for a short to voltage and repair as necessary.
Is a repair necessary?
- Go to Step 12. Go to Step 11.
7 Check the 5 V reference circuit, at terminal A for a short to B+ and repair as necessary.
Is a repair necessary?
- Go to Step 12. Go to Step 8.
8 Check the fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connector for a poor connection and repair the terminals as necessary.
Is a repair necessary?
- Go to Step 12. Go to Step 10.
9 Check the fuel tank pressure sensor ground circuit, at terminal 51 for an open and repair as necessary?
Is a repair necessary?
- Go to Step 12. Go to Step 11.
10 Replace the fuel tank pressure sensor.
Is the action complete?
- Go to Step 12. -

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Replace the ECM.

Is the action complete?
- Go to Step 12. -

  1. Using the scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
  2. Start the engine and idle at normal operating temperature.
  3. Operate the vehicle within the conditions for setting this DTC as specified in the supporting text.

Does the scan tool indicate that this diagnostic ran and passed?
- Go to Step 13. Go to Step 2.
13 Check if any additional DTCs are set.
Are any DTCs displayed that have not been diagnosed?
- Go to applicable DTC TABLE . System OK
