DTC Troubleshooting

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE - DTC P0103 MASS AIR FLOW (MAF) SENSOR HIGH INPUT

Step Action Value(s) Yes No
1 Perform an On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check.
Is the system check complete?
- Go to Step 2. Go to "ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD II) SYSTEM CHECK ".
2
  1. Start the engine.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. With the throttle closed, select the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor parameter on the scan tool.

Is the MAF within the specified range?
90 ~ 130mg/stk Go to Step 4. Go to Step 3.
3
  1. Turn ON the ignition, leaving the engine OFF.
  2. Using a scan tool, clear the DTC.
  3. Operate the vehicle within the Freeze Frame conditions as noted.

Is the DTC set?
- Go to Step 4. Go to "DIAGNOSTIC AIDS ".
4
  1. Start the engine.
  2. Backprobe the MAF sensor signal circuit at the ECM using a DVM connected to ground.
  3. Measure the voltage while idling the engine.

Is the voltage within the specified range?
0.5 ~ 1.0V Go to Step 5. Go to Step 6.
5
  1. Leave the DVM connected.
  2. Start the engine.
  3. Measure the voltage while briefly increasing the engine speed to approximately 4,000 rpm.

Does the voltage increase to approximately the specified value when the engine speed is increased?
2.5 V Go to Step 10. Go to Step 11.
6
  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector.
  3. Probe the MAF sensor ground circuit using a test lamp connected to B+.

Is the test lamp illuminated?
- Go to Step 7. Go to Step 8.
7
  1. Check for a faulty connection at the MAF sensor and at the ECM.
  2. Repair as necessary.

Was a repair necessary?
- Go to Step 12. Go to Step 9.
8 Repair the open in the ground circuit to the MAF sensor.
Is the repair complete?
- Go to Step 12. -
9
  1. Check for a short circuit in the MAF sensor signal circuit.
  2. Repair as necessary.

Was a repair necessary?
- Go to Step 12. Go to Step 11.
10 Replace the ECM.
Is the replace complete?
- Go to Step 12. -
11 Replace the MAF sensor.
Is the replace complete?
