Rear Wiper Inoperative (Hatchback)

IMPORTANT: If the front wiper is operating correctly, begin the diagnostic table at Step 5. It would not be necessary to check the fuse or power supply circuit.
1 Inspect fuse F17.
Is fuse F17 open?
- Go to Step 2  Go to Step 3

  1. Inspect for a short circuit and repair, if necessary.
  2. Replace fuse F17.
Is the repair complete?
- System OK -

  1. Turn the ignition ON.
  2. Inspect the voltage at fuse F17.
Does the voltage equal the specified value?
11-14 V Go to Step 5  Go to Step 4 
4 Repair the open power supply circuit for fuse F17.
Is the repair complete?
- System OK -

  1. Disconnect the rear wiper motor electrical connector.
  2. Turn the ignition ON.
  3. Inspect the voltage at the RD/D-BU wire of the rear wiper motor electrical connector.
Does the voltage equal the specified value?
11-14 V Go to Step 7  Go to Step 6 
6 Repair the open circuit for the RD wire between fuse F17 and connector at the rear wiper motor.
Is the repair complete?
- System OK -
7 With the rear wiper motor still disconnected, use an ohmmeter to check continuity between ground and the BK wire of the rear wiper motor connector.
Does the ohmmeter indicate the specified value?
0 Ω Go to Step 9  Go to Step 8 
8 Repair the open ground circuit for the rear wiper motor.
Is the repair complete?
- System OK -

  1. Turn the ignition ON.
  2. Turn the rear wiper ON.
  3. Inspect the voltage at the GY/RD wire at the rear wiper motor connector.
Does the voltmeter indicate the specified value?
11-14 V Go to Step 10  Go to Step 11 
10 Replace the rear wiper motor. Refer to Rear Window Wiper Motor Replacement .
Is the repair complete?
- System OK -

  1. Disconnect the wiper switch electrical connector.
  2. Turn the ignition ON.
  3. Check the voltage at terminal 3 - RD.
Is the voltage equal to the specified value?
11-14 V Go to Step 13  Go to Step 12 
12 Repair the open circuit between fuse F17 and the wiper switch connector terminal 3.
Is the repair complete?
- System OK -

  1. Connect an ohmmeter between terminals 1 and 3 of the wiper switch.
  2. Observe the ohmmeter when the rear wiper switch is moved to the WIPE position.
Does the ohmmeter indicate the specified value?
0 Ω Go to Step 14  Go to Step 15 
14 Repair the open circuit between terminal 1 of the wiper connector, GY wire, and the rear wiper motor.
Is the repair complete?
- System OK -
15 Replace the wiper switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement .
