Diagnostic Trouble Codes Troubleshooting

DTC TROUBLESHOOTING

Step Action Yes No
1 Was "Engine and Emission Control System Check" performed?  Go To Step 2. Go to "ENGINE AND EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM CHECK :".
2 Do you have SUZUKI scan tool?  Go To Step 3. Go To Step 4.
3 Fuel level sensor output signal check with SUZUKI scan tool
  1. Connect SUZUKI scan tool to DLC with ignition switch turned OFF.
  2. Turn ON ignition switch and check fuel level displayed on scan tool.

Is it 3% or more?
Intermittent trouble or faulty ECM.
Check for intermittent referring to "INTERMITTENT AND POOR CONNECTION INSPECTION ."
Go To Step 6.
4 Fuel level sensor output signal check
  1. Disconnect connectors from ECM with ignition switch turned OFF.
  2. Remove ECM from vehicle body referring to "ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION and then connect connectors to ECM.
  3. Turn ON ignition switch and measure voltage between "G04-17" terminal of ECM connector and vehicle body ground.

Is voltage about 9.8 V or less?
Intermittent trouble or faulty ECM.
Check for intermittent referring to "INTERMITTENT AND POOR CONNECTION INSPECTION ."
Go To Step 5.
5 Fuel level sensor circuit resistance check
  1. Disconnect connectors from ECM with ignition switch turned OFF.
  2. Measure resistance between "G04-17" terminal of ECM connector and vehicle body ground.

Is resistance below 140 Ω?
Go To Step 6. Go To Step 9.
6 Fuel level sensor output signal circuit check for short
  1. Turn OFF ignition switch and then disconnect connectors from combination meter referring to COMBINATION METER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  2. Disconnect connectors from ECM.
  3. Turn ON ignition switch and measure voltage between "G04-17" terminal of ECM connector and vehicle body ground.

Is voltage 0 V?
Go To Step 7. "YEL" or "YEL/RED" wire shorted to power supply circuit.
7 Fuel level sensor output signal circuit check for open
  1. Connect connectors to combination meter with ignition switch turned OFF.
  2. Measure voltage between "G04-19" terminal of ECM connector and vehicle body ground with ignition switch turned ON.

Is voltage below 9.8 V?
Faulty ECM. Substitute a known-good ECM and recheck. Go To Step 8.
8 Check ECM voltage
  1. Turn OFF ignition switch and then disconnect connectors from combination meter.
  2. Connect connectors to ECM.
  3. Turn ON ignition switch and measure voltage between "G04-17" terminal of ECM connector and vehicle body ground.

Is voltage below 0.1 V?
Faulty combination meter. Faulty ECM, substitute a known-good ECM and recheck.
9 Fuel level sensor output signal circuit check for open
  1. Turn OFF ignition switch and then disconnect connectors from combination meter referring to COMBINATION METER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  2. Measure resistance between "G04-17" terminal of ECM connector and "YEL" wire terminal in combination meter harness connector with ignition switch turned OFF.

Is resistance below 1 Ω?
Go To Step 10. Open or high resistance wire in "YEL" circuit between ECM harness connector and combination meter harness connector.
10 Fuel level sensor output signal circuit check for open
  1. Remove fuel tank referring to FUEL TANK REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION and then disconnect connector from fuel pump.
  2. Connect connectors to combination meter.
  3. Turn ON ignition switch, measure voltage between "YEL/ RED" wire terminal of fuel pump harness connector and body ground.

Is voltage 10 - 14 V?
Go To Step 11. Open wire in "YEL/RED" or "YEL" circuit.
11 Fuel level sensor ground circuit check for open
  1. Measure resistance between "BLK/ORN" wire terminal of fuel pump harness connector and body ground with ignition switch turned OFF.

Is resistance below 5 Ω
Go To Step 12. Open or high resistance wire in "BLK/ORN" circuit.
12 Fuel level sensor circuit check for high resistance
  1. Measure resistance between "YEL/RED" wire terminal of fuel pump harness connector and "G04-17" terminal of ECM connector.

Is resistance below 5 Ω?
Go To Step 13. High resistance wire in "YEL/RED" or "YEL" circuit.
13 Check fuel level sensor
  1. Check fuel level sensor referring to FUEL LEVEL SENSOR INSPECTION .

Is it in good condition?
Faulty combination meter. Faulty fuel level sensor.
