MODIFICATION OF MAIN BEARING OIL CLEARANCE AND THE BEARING SELECTION PROCEDURE

CONDITION:

Oil clearance of the main bearings has been modified.

CAUSE:

N/A

CORRECTION:

The crankshaft main bearing oil clearance for the J20 and J23 engines has been modified as well as the main bearing selection procedure. Please update your service manual according to the following specifications and the four attached Service Manual pages.

OIL CLEARANCE SPECIFICATIONS

The oil clearance of the main bearing has been changed to the following specifications:

J20	RH420	STD: 0.026~0.044 mm (0.0011~0.0017 in.): LIMIT: 0.057 mm (0.0022 in.)
J23	RH423	STD: 0.020~0.038 mm (0.0008~0.0015 in.): LIMIT: 0.051 mm (0.0020 in.)

CRANKSHAFT JOURNALS

The number that indicates the crankshaft journal diameter has been changed from three stamped numbers ("1" through "3") to six stamped numbers ("4" through "9") as shown in the figure below.

CRANKSHAFT MAIN BEARING

According to the change in oil clearance, new combinations of the crankshaft main bearings have been added as described in "PART SUPPLY DATA" below.

NOTE: The late crankshaft is usable instead of the early crankshaft if the main bearings are selected according to the procedure in the attached page.
