Changing Fluid
- Before changing or inspecting oil, be sure to stop engine and lift vehicle horizontally.
- With vehicle lifted up, check oil level and leakage. If leakage exists, correct or repair it.
- Drain old oil and fill with a recommended oil by specified amount (up to level hole). See Fig 1 for 4-cylinder models, Fig 2 for 2.5L models orFig 3 for 2.7L models. See RECOMMENDED FLUID and FLUID CAPACITIES .
- Tighten drain and level/filler plug to the specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Apply sealant to thread of drain plug before installation.
CAUTION:
Transmission oil must NOT be poured through gear shift control lever part. Do not loosen or remove reverse idle gear shaft bolt (1). See Fig 1
.
NOTE:
Do not drain transmission oil from plug (4) for 2.7L. See Fig 3
. It is recommended to use SAE 75W-90 gear oil. Whenever vehicle is hoisted for any other service work than oil change, check for oil leakage. If water or rust is mixed in drained oil, be sure to check breather hose and boot of transmission.
