Sir Diagnostic System Check: Description

  1. SIR diagnostic system check should be the starting point of any air bag system diagnostics. SIR diagnostic system check verifies proper AIR BAG warning light operation and checks for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
  2. Refer to proper diagnostic procedure as directed by SIR diagnostic system check. SIR diagnostic system check will lead to correct procedure to diagnose any air bag system problem. By-passing these procedures may result in extended diagnostic time.
  3. Repeat SIR diagnostic system check after performing any repair or diagnostic procedures. Performing SIR diagnostic system check after all repair and diagnostic procedures will ensure repair is correct and no other conditions exist. When ignition switch is first turned on, system voltage is applied from AIR BAG fuse to Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM). SDM responds by flashing AIR BAG warning light 7 times while performing tests on air bag system.
