Disabling Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Suzuki Swift +, 2005 Pontiac Wave, and 2005 Chevrolet Aveo. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

    IMPORTANT: Perform this procedure in order to prevent deployment of the air bags from the reserve energy supply power.
  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  3. IMPORTANT: With the F8 fuse removed and the ignition switch in the ON position, the AIR BAG warning indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.
  4. Remove the F8 fuse.
  5. Remove the lower steering column trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Trim Panel Replacement - Lower in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  6. Remove the knee bolster.

  8. Remove the following parts.
    • The connector position assurance (CPA)
    • The yellow 2-way connector for the inflatable restraint steering wheel module-Release then unlock the connector.
