Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Ensure scan tool is functioning properly and correct cartridge for air bag system is used. Turn ignition off. Check scan tool connection to Data Link Connector (DLC). If connection okay, go to next step. If connection is not okay, connect properly.
  2. Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with other control modules. If communication with other control modules is possible, go to next step. If communication with other control modules is not possible, repair open, short to ground or power in common section of serial data circuit (Purple/Red wire).
  3. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect connector Q02, located under center of instrument panel near SDM. Disconnect SDM connector. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance of White/Black wire between terminal No. 5 of connector Q02 and terminal No. 14 of SDM connector. See Figure & Fig 1 . If resistance is one ohm or less, substitute a known-good SDM and retest system. If resistance is more than one ohm, repair open or high resistance in White/Black wire.
