Removal & Installation

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  2. Remove driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE . Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL . Remove driver-side knee bolster and instrument panel lower cover. Remove upper and lower steering column covers. See Fig 1. Disconnect clockspring electrical connectors. Remove and discard screws securing clockspring to steering column. Remove clockspring.
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten NEW clockspring screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Ensure clockspring is centered. See CENTERING CLOCKSPRING  under ADJUSTMENTS. Activate air bag system.
