P/S Gear Box Removal and Installation: Installation

Reverse removal procedure for installation of steering gear box noting the following points.
CAUTION:
Be sure to confirm that steering wheel and front tires (wheels) are in straight position when inserting steering lower joint into steering pinion shaft.
- If a plug was put to disconnected pipe when removing steering gear box, remove that plug before reconnecting pipe.
- Use specified torque as follows.
Tightening torque
Gear box mounting bolt (a): 55 N.m (5.5 kg.m, 40.0 lb-ft)
Gear box cylinder pipe flare nut (b): 25 N.m (2.5 kg.m, 18.0 lb-ft)
Gear box high and low pressure pipe flare nut (c): 35 N.m (3.5 kg.m, 25.0 lb-ft)
Tie-rod end castle nut (d): 35-55 N.m (3.5-5.5 kg.m, 25.5-39.5 lb-ft)
Steering shaft upper and lower joint bolt (e): 25 N.m (2.5 kg.m, 18.0 lb-ft)
- For installing each part, refer to respective procedures as indicated in the following.
- Exhaust pipe No. 2.
- Mounting member. Refer to FRONT SUSPENSION FRAME REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Engine rear mounting bracket. Refer to FRONT SUSPENSION FRAME REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- For vehicle equipped with 4WD, install transfer referring to Transfer Dismounting and Remounting .
- After installation, be sure to fill specified power steering fluid and bleed air.
- Check toe setting. Adjust as required. Refer to ADJUSTMENTS .
