Installation (A/T Model)

NOTE: DO NOT damage the seals.
  1. Clean the hub seal and axle shaft seal.
  2. Install the axle shaft into the transmission.
  3. Install the wheel hub onto the axle shaft. See Figure .
  4. Install the tie rod into the knuckle/strut and install the tie rod nut. See Fig 1 . Tighten the tie rod nut. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  5. Install the lower ball joint bolt and nut. Tighten the lower ball bolt and nut. See Figure and TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  6. Loosely install the washer and a new axle shaft caulking nut. See Figure . Always use a new nut.
  7. Install the wheels. Loosely install the nuts.
  8. Lower the vehicle to the floor.
  9. Tighten the axle shaft caulking nut. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  10. Peen the caulking nut with a punch and a hammer until the nut is locked into place on the axle shaft hub.
  11. Refill the transmission fluid to the proper level. See appropriate SERVICING article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
