Tie-Rod End Removal and Installation: Installation

  1. Install tie-rod end lock nut (3) and tie-rod end (4) to tie-rod (1). Tighten lock nut to mark (2) on tie-rod thread.
  2. Install tie-rod end to knuckle (5). Tighten castle nut (6) till holes for split pin (7) are aligned but within specified torque range.

    Tightening torque 

    Tie-rod end castle nut (a): 35-55 N.m (3.5-5.5 kg.m, 25.5-39.5 lb-ft)

  3. Bend new split pin (7) as shown in figure.

  4. After installing wheels, lower vehicle and tighten wheel nuts to specified torque.

    Tightening torque 

    Wheel nut (a): 85 N.m (8.5 kg.m, 61.5 lb-ft)

  5. Check that proper amount of toe-in is obtained. Refer to ADJUSTMENTS .
  6. After confirming proper amount of toe-in, tighten tie-rod end lock nut to specified torque.

    Tightening torque 

    Tie-rod end lock nut (b): 45 N.m (4.5 kg.m, 32.5 lb-ft)
