Description & Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Suzuki Verona and 2004 Suzuki Forenza. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: For warnings and procedures regarding vehicles equipped with Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), see appropriate ANTI-LOCK article.

Hydraulically operated brake system uses a tandem master cylinder, with vacuum-assisted power brake booster and single-piston, sliding caliper front and rear disc brakes. All models have cable-actuated rear parking brakes. ABS is optional on all models.

The master cylinder is a tandem master cylinder. Brake pipes are connected to the master cylinder and they make two independent circuits. The primary piston actuates one front and one diagonally opposite rear brake caliper. The secondary piston actuates the opposite front and rear brake caliper. One circuit consists of left front and right rear brake calipers and the other consists of right front and left rear brake calipers.

A brake proportioning valve is used between master cylinder and brake circuits to limit outlet pressure to rear brakes after a predetermined master cylinder pressure has been reached.
