Diagnostic Procedure
- Ensure scan tool is functioning properly and correct cartridge for air bag system is used. Turn ignition off. Check scan tool connection to Data Link Connector (DLC). If connection is in good condition, go to next step. If connection is not in good condition, connect properly.
- Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with other control modules. If communication with other control modules is possible. go to next step. If communication with other modules is not possible, repair open, short to ground or power in common section of serial data circuit (Purple/Red wire).
- Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect connector Q02 located under center of instrument panel near SDM. See Figure. Check connector Q02 terminal No. 8 (Purple/Red wire) for proper connection. Repair as necessary. Measure resistance of Purple/Red wire between SDM connector terminal No. 20 and connector Q02 terminal No. 8. See Figure & Fig 1
. If zero ohms is present, substitute a known-good SDM and retest. If infinite ohms is present, repair open or high resistance in Purple/Red wire. Reconnect all components. Clear DTC's. Go to AIR BAG DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSTICS.
