Diagnostic Procedure

- Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, attempt to display ABS data. If ABS data can be displayed, go to step 4 . If ABS data cannot be displayed, go to next step.
- Repair condition causing ABS data not to be displayed. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES. If ABS data can now be displayed, go to next step. If ABS data still can not be displayed, go to step 10 .
- Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Review FREEZE FRAME data and note parameters. Start engine and operate vehicle within CODE ENABLE CRITERIA , and as close to conditions recorded in FREEZE FRAME as possible. If a misfire DTC stores, go to next step. If a misfire DTC did not store, go to step 8 .
- If DTC P1380 also set, go to next step. If DTC P1380 did not store, go to step 7 .
- If ABS data can be displayed, go to step 10 . If ABS data cannot be displayed, repeat testing beginning in step 4 .
- Repair condition causing misfire as necessary. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. After repair is completed, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear DTCS. Start engine and allow it to idle. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature of 167-203°F (75-95°C). Operate vehicle within CODE ENABLE CRITERIA . Select specified DTC INFO, then enter DTC P1381. If scan tool indicates DTC P1381 RAN AND PASSED this ignition, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate DTC P1381 RAN AND PASSED this ignition, repeat test beginning in step 2 .
- If any other DTCs are also set, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no other DTCs are set, testing is complete.
- Replace and reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT under POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
