Idle Speed: Aerio

Powertrain Control Module (PCM) manage idle speed using Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. To check and adjust idle speed, do the following:

  1. Ensure all fuel and emission control system wire connectors and hoses are properly connected. Ensure accelerator cable has free-play, air cleaner and ducts are properly installed and air filter element is in good condition. Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Turn all accessories off. Ensure ignition timing is correct. See IGNITION TIMING  . Check for intake air leaks, repair as necessary.
  2. Connect Suzuki scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located under left side of instrument panel. See Figure . Select DATA LIST mode and observe IDLE SPEED and IAC DUTY parameters. With A/C system OFF and ON (if equipped), compare idle speed or idle air control duty cycle to specifications, see IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS  and IAC DUTY AT SPECIFIED IDLE SPEED  tables. If idle speed or idle air control duty cycle is not within specification with A/C system OFF, adjust idle speed or idle air control duty cycle by turning idle air adjusting screw. See Fig 1 . If after adjustment idle speed still incorrect, check operation of Idle Air Control (IAC) system. See IDLE CONTROL SYSTEM in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. If idle speed is not as specified with A/C system ON, check A/C signal, see A/C SIGNALS CIRCUIT CHECK under MISCELLANEOUS CONTROLS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article.
