Cold (Fast) Idle: Aerio

Fast Idle Air (FIA) valve is controlled by Powertrain Control Module (PCM). FIA valve supply by-pass air into intake to increase engine idle speed when engine is cold. Inspect fast idle speed as follow:

  1. Ensure engine temperature is 77°F (25°C) or less. Use scale and mirror to measure plunger protrusion "a". See Fig 1 . Plunger protrusion "a" length should be 1.048-1.078 in. (26.6-27.4 mm).
  2. Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. After engine warm-up and coolant temperature is 126-154°F (58-68°C) or higher, check and ensure that fast control cam is not touching cam follower lever. See Fig 1 . If malfunction is found, replace throttle body assembly. See THROTTLE BODY & INTAKE COLLECTOR under AIR INDUCTION SYSTEMS in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION article.
