Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Ensure jumper wire is firmly connected to AIR BAG monitor connector terminal No. 1 and ground terminal No. 2. See Figure. If jumper wire is firmly connected, go to next step. If jumper wire is not firmly connected, reconnect properly and retest.
- Ensure ignition is off. Short AIR BAG diagnostic monitor connector terminal No. 1 directly to ground. Observe AIR BAR warning light when turning ignition on. If AIR BAG warning light flashes a DTC pattern, repair open or high resistance in Black wire between AIR BAG monitor connector terminal No. 2 and ground. If AIR BAG warning light does not flash a DTC pattern, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect SDM connector. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Inspect Purple wire for proper connection at SDM connector terminal No. 30 and AIR BAG monitor connector terminal No. 1. If connectors are okay, measure resistance between terminals No. 1 and 30. If resistance is 1000 ohms or less, substitute a known-good SDM and retest system. If resistance is more than 1000 ohms, repair open or high resistance in Purple wire.
