Test Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Isuzu Rodeo Sport and 2002 Isuzu Rodeo. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The numbers below refer to the step numbers in the diagnostic procedures.

  1. 1

PMC OBD II system check indicates that a misfire was detected and that PCM could not determine if detected misfire was true or due to operating vehicle on a rough surface. A misfire can be a true misfire with or without storing DTC P1381. Check EBCM for poor connections at Class 2 serial data terminals. Ensure that no true misfires exists after repairing cause of DTCs.
  2. 3

For ABS testing procedures, see ANTI-LOCK BRAKES article in BRAKES. ABS diagnostic system check is starting point in diagnosing a serial data problem.
  3. 4

Be careful to clear only DTCs and not captured information stored on scan tool. Scan tool will issue a warning if this is about to happen.
  4. 5

A DTC P1381 that resets indicates that PCM is not receiving Class 2 serial data from EBCM, due to a ECBM problem.
  5. 6

When DTC P1381 is set, an ABS serial data should not be able to be displayed.
  6. 7

Repair any condition that remains causing a misfire by using appropriate diagnostic procedure for stored DTC.
  7. 10

    Replacement PCM must be programmed.
