Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
  2. Visually check for loose or broken harness connector terminals, broken wires, or damaged fuel tank or fuel level sensor. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem was found, go to next step.
  3. Remove fuel tank. See FUEL SYSTEMS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Inspect fuel level sensor for corrosion, rust or damage. If problem is found, go to next step. If no problem was found, go to step  5 .
  4. Replace fuel level sensor. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  5. Replace and reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT  under POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
