Drive Belt Inspection
Drive Belt Inspection and AdjustmentWARNING: All inspection and replacement are to be performed with ENGINE NOT RUNNING.
Water Pump, Generator, Power Steering and / or A/C Compressor (If Equipped) Drive Belt (for J20 Engine)
1. Disconnect negative cable at battery.
2. Inspect belt for cracks, cuts, deformation, wear and cleanliness. If any of above conditions are found, replace.
3. Make sure that tension indicator A" is within the range "a".
If indicator "A" comes into the NG range "c" passing "b", replace generator belt with a new one.
NOTE: Use mirror when checking belt tension.
Engine Cooling Fan Drive Belt (for J20 Engine)
1. Disconnect negative cable at battery.
2. Inspect belt for cracks, cuts, deformation, wear and cleanliness. If any defect exists, replace.
3. Check belt for tension.
If the belt is too tight or too loose, adjust it to specification by adjusting cooling fan pulley position.
Cooling fan belt tension under 100 N, 10 kg or 22 lb pressure
"a": 5 - 7 mm (0.20 - 0.27 in.) deflection
NOTE:
When replacing belt with a new one, adjust belt deflection within specification given below.
New cooling fan belt tension under 100 N, 10 kg or 22 lb pressure
"a": 4 - 5 mm (0.16 - 0.19 in.) deflection
4. Tighten adjusting bolt and pivot bolt.
5. Connect negative cable at battery.
