Oil Pan: Service and Repair






Removal
1. Remove oil level gauge.
2. Raise vehicle and remove both front wheels.
3. Remove steering gear box (4) from vehicle.
4. Remove front differential housing (1) with differential (2) from chassis.





5. Drain engine oil by removing drain plug (3).
6. Remove transmission stiffener if equipped.
7. Remove clutch (torque converter) housing lower plate.





8. Remove oil pan and oil pump strainer (2) from crankcase.

Installation





1. To facilitate and ensure installation of oil pan, increase clearance between engine and vehicle body according to the following procedure.
a. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
b. Remove engine mounting nuts (Right and Left).
c. Using engine support jack, hoist engine 2 - 3 cm (about 1 inch).

CAUTION: Do not hoist engine more than instructed. That may cause trouble to engine or transmission.





2. Apply sealant continuously to oil pan (1) mating surface as shown in figure.
"A": Sealant 99000-31150
3. Install O-rings (2) in the position as shown in figure and install oil pump strainer (3) to oil pump (1).
Tighten strainer bolts first and then bracket bolt to specified torque.
Tightening torque
Oil pump strainer bolt (a): 11 Nm (1.1 kgf, 8.0 ft. lbs.)
Oil pump strainer bracket bolt (b): 11 Nm (1.1 kgf, 8.0 ft. lbs.)





4. After fitting oil pan (4) to cylinder block, run in securing bolts and start tightening at the center: move wrench outward, tightening one bolt at a time. Tighten bolts and nuts to specified torque.
5. Lower engine and tighten engine mounting nuts to specified torque.





6. Install gasket and drain plug (2) to oil pan (1). Tighten drain plug to specified torque.
7. Install clutch (torque converter) housing lower plate.
8. Connect exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold.
9. Install transmission stiffener to transmission and cylinder block if equipped.
10. Install front differential housing according to installation procedure.
11. Refill front differential housing with gear oil.
12. Install steering gear box to vehicle.
13. Install oil level gauge.
14. Refill engine with engine oil.
15. Refill power steering system with specified fluid.
16. Verify that there is no engine oil leakage, differential oil leakage and power steering fluid leakage at each connection.

Cleaning





1. Inside of oil pan and oil pump strainer screen.





2. Clean sealing surface on oil pan and crankcase. Remove oil, old sealant, and dust from sealing surface.
