Scrapped Vehicle

Some vehicles to be scrapped may have an undeployed air bag module or seat belt pretensioner. Follow these procedures when scrapping a vehicle with an undeployed component:

WARNING: Accidental air bag or seat belt pretensioner deployment is possible. Personal injury may occur. Air bag or seat belt pretensioner will deploy immediately when power source is connected. Deployment wires must remain shorted and not be connected to power source until selected component is to be deployed. Connecting deployment wires to power source should always be the final step in deployment procedure.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position and remove key. Disconnect driver-side air bag module connector. See Figure. Open glove box door and release side stops. Remove glove box. Disconnect passenger-side air bag module connector. See Figure. Remove left and right lower B-pillar trim panels. Disconnect driver-side and passenger-side seat belt pretensioner connectors.
  2. Using Deployment Harness (09932-75030), short the two deployment harness leads together by fully seating one banana plug into the other. Connect deployment harness connector to applicable SRS component using Deployment Adapter (09932-78331). Route deployment harness out of vehicle and stretch to its full length of 33 feet (10 m).
  3. Remove all loose objects from front seat and ensure no one is in vehicle. Completely cover windshield area and front door window openings with a drop cloth or blanket. Separate the two banana plugs on deployment harness.
  4. Connect harness to a 12-volt battery to immediately deploy selected component. Repeat procedure for remaining components. DO NOT touch area around air bag module inflators or seat belt pretensioners for 30 minutes due to heat generated during deployment. Wash hands with soap and water afterward.
